Jump your bones recalls kangaroo meat cat treats

Florida company Jump Your Bones Inc., is recalling packages of Roo Bites (Cubes) because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. They were distributed to retail pet food stores nationwide and through pet food retailers and distributors.

As the name indicates, Roo Bites are made from dehydrated kangaroo meat. The company touts the health benefits of the meat on its site. “Kangaroo is one of the healthiest red meats there is. With fat levels of less than 2 percent, meat doesn’t come any leaner.” The treats are sold for cats as well as dogs.

The products affected by this recall have the following UPC code and bag size:

  • UPC code: 63633010041
  • Size: 2.82 oz., including samples of .32 oz.

No pet or consumer illnesses from this product have been reported to date, and no information was given on how the threat was discovered. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

Consumers who have bought the treats are asked to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund or to dispose them immediately. For more information, call 888-249-6755.
