Freeway the cat was trapped and then rescued near an interstate in san francisco

Cats have an uncanny ability to get themselves stuck in the silliest places. Last year, I rescued a kitten who managed to get herself permanently lodged on top of a Brooklyn rooftop- my own cat Mimosa also likes to repeatedly hop up on top of the fridge-freezer and only then remember that she cannot get down.

Over in San Francisco, a handsome gray cat recently found himself trapped on an Interstate-80 off-ramp. Naturally, he’s become known as Freeway.

Freeway’s misadventure saw him wedged on top of a hefty chunk of cold concrete while cars whizzed by. After noticing that the cat was seemingly stuck there over a period of days, a man who is being billed as “a commuting Good Samaritan” brought the cat’s plight to the attention of the local Animal Care and Control center.

With traffic duly stopped, an ACC officer safely scooped Freeway up and whisked him off to a local shelter while putting out the word that a missing cat had been found. When no one came forward to claim the kitty, the cat’s original spotter visited the shelter to meet up with Freeway.

You can guess where this one’s heading: Yep, Freeway’s original rescuer was so smitten with the cat that he offered him a forever home.

Despite the presence of a dog in the household, Freeway was gracious enough to accept. Here’s a picture of the new happy family — presumably taken moments before planning the next communal road trip.
