Monday miracle: sheldon the cat manages manx syndrome with acupuncture

Sheldon is a striking ginger tabby who was born with the double whammy of Manx Syndrome and water on the brain. Despite his physical ailments, though, the Michigan-based three-year-old continues to enjoy the standard feline trifecta of food, naps and playtime. He’s also become inseparable from his favorite stuffed toy, a monkey.

Technically, Sheldon cannot walk on his own. However, his human reports via Facebook that he is undergoing acupuncture therapy to help him manage his condition and get the most out of his day-to-day activities.

It seems that Sheldon’s monthly appointments with the acupuncture therapist are proving to have a positive effect. He usually greets the news of his latest appointment with a sprightly comment on Facebook — even if he looks pretty zonked out during the actual session.

“I was a good boy at my acupuncture today,” he wrote recently. “I even purred for the vet today and I never do that! I don’t even really purr that often at all.”

When not skipping out for his acupuncture visits, Sheldon can be found in his forever home canoodling with his two main cohorts. First there is his baby brother, Storm, a grey kitten who seems to enjoy using Sheldon as a pillow.

The gang is completed with Sheldon’s stuffed monkey, whom he’s developed a super close bond with. Nattily, Sheldon’s human reveals that the monkey is holding a secret stash of catnip (partly to help with relaxing him for medical visits).

While Sheldon is said to be a well-mannered cat who likes to “eat, play and love,” his monthly acupuncture appointments do add up to a financial burden. So if you feel like helping out with the cost of his $47-a-week sessions, mosey on over to his donation page.
