Dog handler dumps retired police dog at kill shelter

Some people are just awful. There are so many people in this world who do terrible things, but it seems to me that the worst of them are the ones who take lives, harm children and harm animals. Other people might lie and cheat and steal and that makes them perfectly awful on their own, but it&rsquo-s the people that hurt others that are the worst. Let&rsquo-s take this dog handler and use him as an example. He&rsquo-s got a retired police dog, and he no longer wanted that dog in his care anymore. This is Buster. Buster is an 8-year-old retired German Shepherd who began working with the K9 Narcotics Unit on Rikers Island when he was only 18-months-old.

This gorgeous dog retired, like many police dogs do, with his handler. This is the police officer with whom the dog worked for his entire career. These are two living beings that spend much of their time together doing very dangerous work and form a very close bond. This means that when it&rsquo-s time for the dog to retire, it&rsquo-s often his handler that wants to bring him home. After all, they have a very close bond.

However, when Buster&rsquo-s longtime handler was going through some personal problems as of late, he decided he would abandon his dog at a shelter. Not just any shelter, however. He decided he would abandon his dog at a kill shelter. This is a man who is perfectly aware that there are other options available for his dog, yet he chose to get rid of his dog by abandoning him. He could have used his resources as a former police officer to find an alternative route to give his dog to a different home if things were that bad, but he chose not to do that and he made a horrible decision.
