Dog owners warned to be careful during trapping season
Idaho&rsquo-s trapping season does not begin until November, which is quite a few months away. However, those who work for the Fish and Wildlife Department want to make sure that dog owners know what to do in case their dog is put in jeopardy during this season. The officials in the department hosted a training session over the weekend to teach dog owners what to do in case of an emergency. They were taught how to keep their dogs from becoming injured, how to remove them from a trap should they become caught walking off trail and how to avoid rattlesnakes when they walk with their dogs.
Each year, many dogs are hurt and killed when they are unexpectedly caught in traps and encounter venomous snakes. This training session might come early, but it&rsquo-s an important one for those who love to hike on the tens of thousands of trails that are present in Idaho for animal lovers and nature lovers alike. This training session taught owners how to use their tee shirt to blind their dogs to remove them from traps without panicking the dog, how to save their lives and what items they should always have on their person when hiking during trapping season. It&rsquo-s meant to be a fun season for all who love to trap, but it is dangerous for those who are unable to keep a close eye on their animal when they wander off to use the bathroom or chase an animal unexpectedly. It was a great effort, and a much needed one, too.
