Copper the rescue dog confirms he is man’s best friend
When April&rsquo-s parents decided to move to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2006, she had no choice but to go with them. Once they were settled in, they planned to go and adopt a dog from the animal shelter. In a sad turn of events, her cat passed away just a month after the move, which led the family to the shelter anyway. They rescued a black Labrador mix puppy and named him Angus. Intended to be April&rsquo-s dog, to her dismay Angus ended up taking to her stepdad instead.
Soon enough, her parents started acting very sneaky, but April didn&rsquo-t really pay attention as she wasn&rsquo-t ever really home much. One afternoon, she walked into the house when they handed her a picture of a five month old puppy from the shelter named Copper – April instantly fell in love with the German Shepherd and Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Cooper and his five siblings had been abandoned, left to their own devices to fend for themselves. They were caught and most of them were adopted into kind homes.
Copper was more of a loner than the others, fearful of humans, and only played with toys by himself and not with other dogs. The day the family was to bring him home, April was able to go along for the pick up. The moment they picked up the dog, she just knew she had found a friend in Copper upon his first lick. Throughout the years with April, she learned, he rarely licked anyone, so when he did, you knew it was special. When he knew it was bedtime, she would find him in his special corner on her bed, waiting for her.
Sadly, he began having seizures out of nowhere in September 2012. The vet informed them it was a brain tumor, and to put the dog out of his misery, they put him down that same day – he was only five. To this day, April still heartbreakingly looks for Copper when she comes home or when she steps into her room. She lost her best friend that day, but he&rsquo-s in her heart and memory forever.
